Sateen is a light to midweight fabric. Weaving pattern is four or more weft yarns floating over a warp yarn, and four warp yarns floating over a single weft yarn. It has a glossy finish on one side and a duller finish on the other side. This fabric is also known with its beautiful drape. As different than satin, for which filament fibers, such as silk, nylon, or polyester are used, sateen is made from short-staple spun cotton yarns. This makes sateen more durable material suitable to bedding and draperies. While being as smooth and shiny as satin, sateen is machine washable unlike satin and it is easy to iron.

Poplin, also called as tabbinet, is a light to midweight fabric made with a tight plain weave. It is woven in a simple over-under pattern. It has the same appearance on both front and back. This smooth and durable fabric does not wrinkle much and it is easy to iron which makes it popular especially for shirts and dresses. It is machine washable and stands up heavy wear. This versatile fabric takes dyes and prints well.
